"It’s a nice day for a white wedding..."

So as I mentioned in my previous entry I am going to a wedding in DC this weekend. It is in fact, my lovelies, that time of year again: Wedding Season. Today I received an invitation to a friend’s wedding, and in July and September I have more friends tying the knot. A gal in my office got married this weekend as well. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I am getting older and more and more of my friends are pairing off, but it seems like more people I know are getting hitched.

And then a few days ago I got my newsletter/update from the NPR show I adore, All Songs Considered, and in the side bar was a story by NPR music producer Stephen Thompson about how he put together a wedding mix for his niece to use during dinner:

I love his mix of songs and think any of them would be beautiful for wedding day use, especially “Passenger Seat” by Death Cab For Cutie and “Question” by the Old 97’s. I always thought Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” was a bit on the sad side, but I guess it’s all in the way you interpret it. In any case it’s a great list.

Whenever I attend a wedding or talk to someone who went to one, I am always curious on what song was played when the couple had their first dance. I always like to know if the couple was creative enough to dance to something else beside “At Last” by Etta James. Don’t get me wrong, I love that song, but really it can’t be everyone’s song.

I’ll be honest with you I am really not at a point in my life yet where I am seriously thinking about marriage. Maybe it is due to the fact that I am single, or maybe because I’m in no rush. In any case I am not wedding focused. However, with all this wedding talk going on around me, I start to think about me and what I would want to do. And I have gotten as far as I don’t want to get married in my hometown.

But since I am a music junkie, it is clear that I must have great music. So since Stephen Thompson has provided such a great list of songs, I feel that I now must also give my two cents. Fell free to use these for your own wedding or maybe you can make a mixed CD for a bride and/or groom you know. Sorry they are so hipster heavy…

xoxo,
Stefania
